Join us for the May 2024 installment of the “Science on the Sound” Lecture Series at the Coastal Studies Institute on the ECU Outer Banks Campus. This monthly, in-person lecture series brings perspectives from all over the state and highlights coastal topics in northeastern North Carolina. This month, Alex Hodges, Clinical Professor in the Department of Advanced Nursing Practice and Education at ECU will present “Ready for Change: Building Effective Climate Readiness” on May 23, 2024, at 6:00 PM.
The impact of climate change is significantly affecting the lives of people in the United States. From wildfires in Maui and Nevada to Hurricane Idalia, the consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly evident. Storms, flooding, heat, wind, wildfires impact Dare County. As a patient, it is essential to understand the potential risks and hazards that you may face in such situations. This session will focus on a primary care nurse practitioner’s perspective on climate change and its implications for primary care. The discussion will revolve around approaches to climate change and what changes you can make to be better prepared for the challenges posed by climate change. With the help of patient education tools such as those published by Americares, patients can be better equipped to handle emergencies and disasters caused by the rapidly changing climate.
The program is free and the public is encouraged to attend. It will also be live-streamed on the CSI YouTube channel for those unable to make it in person.
